Expanding Capabilities and Investment
Upon the formal completion of the acquisition, GDT is set to operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Softcat. In a move designed to maintain continuity and preserve the brand equity GDT has built over decades in the North American market, the company will retain its original name, its current leadership team, and its existing workforce. This "business-as-usual" approach is intended to ensure that GDT’s clients experience no disruption in service while benefiting from the expanded resources of the parent company.
The integration of the two companies will result in a combined portfolio that addresses the full spectrum of IT needs. This includes everything from the initial sourcing and procurement of hardware and software to the ongoing management, optimization, and eventual decommissioning of technology assets. Softcat believes that this unified approach will significantly simplify the IT supply chain for its customers, allowing them to accelerate their internal transformation initiatives without the burden of managing multiple vendor relationships.
One of the most strategic aspects of the acquisition involves the future of infrastructure for artificial intelligence (AI). As organizations worldwide race to integrate AI into their business processes, the demand for secure, scalable infrastructure capable of handling massive AI workloads has skyrocketed. Softcat highlighted that the combined capabilities of the two firms will better enable them to help organizations build the specialized environments required for AI. This includes the high-performance computing, specialized storage, and ultra-low-latency networking that form the backbone of modern AI deployments.
Furthermore, the deal includes a commitment to significant ongoing investment. A primary focus of this investment will be the expansion of GDT’s Global Operations Center (GOC) located in Bangalore, India. Softcat and GDT plan to inject fresh funding into the GOC to bolster its engineering expertise and optimize its underlying business systems. The goal is to enhance the center’s ability to provide 24/7 managed services and technical support to a global client base. As the combined business grows, the Bangalore facility will serve as a critical engine room, providing the round-the-clock coverage necessary to support international enterprises operating across multiple time zones.
Shawn O’Grady, CEO of GDT, expressed strong optimism about the merger, noting that the partnership would unlock new levels of service for GDT’s clients. He pointed out that joining forces with Softcat provides GDT with a broader set of solutions and deeper financial and technical resources than it had as an independent entity. O’Grady also emphasized the benefits for GDT’s employees, suggesting that being part of a larger, internationally focused organization would create new opportunities for professional growth and innovation.
"Together, we can deliver a broader set of solutions, deeper resources and global reach with the high-touch service our customers have come to expect," O’Grady said. He added that the synergy between the two companies would ultimately benefit all stakeholders, including technology partners and the respective companies’ bottom lines, by creating a more competitive and capable global player.
