Amazon Kindle 2026: Price, Release Date, and the Remote

The new Kindle lineup is available for order immediately, with a pricing structure that spans from accessible entry-level models to high-end productivity tools.

From Affordable to Premium

The pricing reflects the diversity of the new hardware. The core 6-inch Kindle with 16GB of storage starts at $150, while the 32GB version with the aluminum back is priced at $190. This represents a slight increase in the entry-level price point, justified by the improved materials and flush-front design.

The 7-inch Kindle Paperwhite begins at $200 for the 16GB model. Those opting for the Paperwhite Signature Edition will see the price rise to $250. The new Kindle Colorsoft, bringing color to the portable segment, is priced at $290 for the 16GB variant and $320 for the 32GB Signature Edition. Recognizing the importance of the younger demographic, Amazon is also offering the Kindle, Paperwhite, and Colorsoft in "Kids" editions. These bundles include child-friendly protective covers and a one-year subscription to Amazon Kids+, starting at $180.

The most significant price jumps are found in the Scribe category, reflecting their positioning as professional-grade devices. The standard black-and-white Kindle Scribe without a front light is available for $430 (16GB). Models with integrated front lighting are priced at $500 for 32GB and $550 for 64GB.

The flagship of the entire 2026 refresh, the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft, sits at the top of the price bracket. The 32GB model is priced at $630, while the 64GB version reaches $680. These prices put the Scribe Colorsoft in direct competition with high-end tablets, though Amazon is betting that the eye-comfort of e-ink and the specialized writing experience will justify the investment for its target audience of avid readers and note-takers.

In addition to the e-readers themselves, Amazon has introduced a new accessory: the Kindle Click. This $35 Bluetooth remote allows users to turn pages without touching the device. Amazon suggests the remote is ideal for specific scenarios, such as when the Kindle is propped up on a treadmill or an aircraft tray table. The Kindle Click is compatible with all Kindle models released in 2024 or later, marking a new step toward a hands-free reading experience.

With this 2026 refresh, Amazon has not only modernized its hardware but has also signaled that color and AI integration are the future of the e-reader. By offering a spectrum of devices ranging from the ultra-portable base Kindle to the sophisticated Scribe Colorsoft, the company aims to maintain its grip on the digital reading market in an increasingly multi-media world.
